Horn tabbed to take over South Carolina

Columbia, SC (Sports Network) - South Carolina has named Darrin Horn its new men's basketball coach, replacing the retired Dave Odom.

Horn spent the past five years at Western Kentucky, guiding his alma mater to an NCAA Tournament berth this past season. The Hilltoppers won the Sun Belt Conference title to reach the field of 65, then beat Drake and San Diego before losing to UCLA in the West Region semifinals last week.

Western Kentucky finished 29-7 this season and won at least 20 games in each of Horn's last four years. The Hilltoppers had a record of 111-48 in Horn's five seasons -- adding a pair of NIT berths to this year's Sweet 16 run.

The 35-year-old Horn started his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater in 1995 and has also been an assistant at Morehead State and Marquette.

Odom announced his retirement in January and stepped down after the Gamecocks concluded a 14-18 campaign with an 89-87 loss to Tennessee in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament.
