Jordan, No. 12 Aggies roll past Rice for sixth straight


College Station, TX (Sports Network) - DeAndre Jordan netted 16 points, pulled down 12 boards and recorded four blocks, as 12th-ranked Texas A&M defeated the Rice Owls, 68-41, at Reed Arena.

Josh Carter overcame a poor shooting performance (5-of-14) to finish with 16 points for the Aggies (13-1), who have won six straight, all by more than 20 points. Joseph Jones tallied 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win.

Lawrence Ghoram was the only player to reach double figures for Rice (3-8), contributing 16 points in defeat. Rodney Foster and Patrick Britton each donated eight points.

With the score knotted at eight, Joseph Jones's lay-in kick-started a 12-5 run that put the Aggies ahead 20-13. Jones contributed nine points during the spurt.

After Foster made 1-of-2 free throws, the Aggies closed out the remaining 3:47 of the period on an 11-0 run to carry a 33-18 advantage into the break.

The Aggies' lead reached 38-18 early in the second when Dominique Kirk kicked it out to Carter, who knocked down a trey.

Ghoram hit a jumper to trim the margin to 40-26, but Texas A&M restored a twenty-point cushion, 47-27, after a layup by Jordan.

Carter's lay-in with about five minutes remaining extended Texas A&M's lead to 59-33 and the Aggies coasted to the finish.

Game Notes

Rice's Paulius Packevicius had 11 rebounds...Both squads struggled from the floor, as Texas A&M shot 37.7 percent compared to Rice, who made only 26.8 percent of its shots.
