LSU introduces Johnson as basketball coach

Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - LSU has named Stanford's Trent Johnson as its next men's basketball coach, the school announced Thursday at a press conference. He replaces John Brady, who was fired in February.

The 51-year-old Johnson comes to Baton Rouge after four years at Stanford, where he led the Cardinal to an 80-48 record. This past season, Johnson coached Stanford to a 28-8 mark and a trip to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

Including five years at Nevada, Johnson owns a 159-122 career coaching mark and has made four NCAA Tournament appearances. He also led the Wolfpack to the 2004 Western Athletic Conference championship and a berth in the Sweet 16.

Brady was dismissed just two years after leading the Tigers to the Final Four. LSU struggled to an 8-13 start under Brady, and finished the regular season 13-18 after interim coach Butch Pierre took over for the final 10 games.

Brady has since moved on to be named the head coach at Arkansas State.
