Lopez brothers power Stanford past ArizonaTucson, AZ (Sports Network) - Brook Lopez scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and brother Robin recorded the game-winning block to propel seventh- ranked Stanford to a 67-66 win over Pac-10 rival Arizona at the McKale Center. Robin Lopez added 14 points and eight boards for Stanford (21-4, 10-3 Pac-10), which bounced back from a 72-68 overtime loss to Arizona State on Thursday. Lawrence Hill chipped in 13 points, including a 2-of-2 effort from behind the arc.
Jerryd Bayless poured in 31 points, including a 16-for-16 showing from the
foul line, doled out six assists and grabbed five boards for Arizona (16-9,
6-6), which lost for the third time in four games. Chase Budinger contributed
23 points and six rebounds in defeat. Stanford took a two-point lead after a basket from Brook Lopez, but Budinger drained a three-pointer to give Arizona a 66-65 advantage with 45 seconds remaining. Stanford called a timeout with 29.3 seconds left, and on the inbound pass Brook Lopez drove to the hoop and was fouled from behind by Budinger. Lopez sank both free throws to put the Cardinal back on top. Arizona had one last chance, and with 15.2 seconds to play, Bayless brought the ball in and found Budinger, who went up for the layup. Robin Lopez was perfectly positioned down low and swatted the ball away as time expired. Brook Lopez made 9-of-12 free throws and Stanford finished 22-of-30 from the line, while Arizona connected on 23-of-28. The schools exchanged baskets for the majority of the first half and Brook Lopez's bucket with 1:07 on the clock gave Stanford a 30-28 lead heading into the locker room. Jordan Hill's bucket not even 30 seconds into the new half tied the game at 30. However, Anthony Goods responded with a three-pointer that set the tone for an 8-0 Stanford run. Later in the half, Arizona cut its deficit to 50-46 as Bayless scored 16 straight points for the Wildcats, the final two coming via the free throw line with 8:12 on the clock. A Lawrence Hill three-point play opened a 60-52 Cardinal advantage with about 4 1/2 minutes to play. Bayless, though, answered with a pair from the charity stripe and Budinger added five points to make it a one-possession game, 62-59, with 3:17 to go. Jawann McClellan then connected on a three for Arizona, and after stopping Stanford, Budinger hit 1-of-2 from the line with just over two minutes left to give the Wildcats a 63-62 lead.
