Old Dominion coasts past LibertyNorfolk, VA (Sports Network) - Shahida Williams dropped in a contest-best 20 points to lead the fifth-seeded Old Dominion Lady Monarchs past the 12th- seeded Liberty Lady Flames, 82-62, in the first round of the Greensboro Region of the NCAA Tournament. Williams made good on 10-of-11 field goals for ODU (30-4), which will take on either UC Santa Barbara or Virginia in the second round. Jessica Canady added 14 points to the mix, while Jazzmin Walters chipped in with 12 points. Megan Pym had seven blocks and 10 rebounds, as the Lady Monarchs ended a five-game tourney losing streak.
Megan Frazee paced Liberty (28-4) in the setback with 19 points and eight
rebounds, while Rachel McLeod and Molly Frazee netted 11 and 10 points,
respectively. Trailing 19-14 in the first half, ODU went on a 15-0 run and held a 44-30 advantage at the intermission. Liberty tried to battle back in the second half and came within 12 points on two occasions before the Lady Monarchs pulled away for the 20-point win.
