Report: Horn leaving Western Kentucky for South Carolina

Columbia, SC (Sports Network) - South Carolina has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday to introduce its new men's basketball coach, and reports indicate that Darrin Horn is leaving Western Kentucky to take the vacancy created by Dave Odom's retirement.

The State newspaper in South Carolina cited sources as saying Horn has been selected by the school, which first must approve the contract before it can be made official.

Horn guided Western Kentucky into the third round of this year's NCAA Tournament. The Hilltoppers concluded a 29-7 season with an 88-78 loss to UCLA in the West Region semifinals last Thursday.

In five seasons at Western Kentucky, Horn posted a record of 111-48. The Hilltoppers reached just one NCAA Tournament under Horn, but also made the NIT twice, losing to South Carolina in the first round of the 2006 event.

The 35-year-old Horn, an alumnus of Western Kentucky, started his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater in 1995 and has also been an assistant at Morehead State and Marquette.

Odom announced his retirement in January and stepped down after the Gamecocks concluded a 14-18 campaign with an 89-87 loss to Tennessee in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament.
