Self denies interest in Oklahoma StateLawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Kansas men's basketball head coach Bill Self denied interest in returning to Oklahoma State, his alma mater, in a press conference on Tuesday. Oklahoma State head coach Sean Sutton resigned on Tuesday. Self wasn't sure that the move was official at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
"If it has been done, I feel bad for Sean," said Self, an Oklahoma native and
a 1985 graduate of Oklahoma State, where he played basketball. Self also
served as an assistant for seven years for the Cowboys, the last three under
Eddie Sutton, Sean's father. "I do care deeply for my alma mater, I spent 11 years of my life at OSU, but nobody from there has contacted me, and if they did I would strongly recommend they move in a different direction," said Self, who is leading Kansas into the Final Four, his first career appearance in the national semifinals. The Jayhawks, who won the Midwest Region, will battle the top overall seed of the tournament, North Carolina, on Saturday night in the Alamodome in San Antonio. That game will be a rematch with Self's predecessor in Kansas, Roy Williams.
