St. Joe's G Rivera to transferPhiladelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Saint Joseph's University guard D.J. Rivera was granted his release from the men's basketball program Friday, and given permission to transfer to another school. Rivera, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Philadelphia, played in just 13 games during the 2007-08 season after being declared academically ineligible for the fall semester. When he did play, Rivera posted averages of 4.4 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. The Hawks went 21-13 and were ousted in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by Oklahoma. "It has always been the trademark of our program to do what's best for each individual, and we granted (Rivera's) request," said St. Joe's head coach Phil Martelli. Rivera, who was a First Team All-City selection at Philly's Neumann-Goretti High School, averaged 5.9 points per game as a freshman.
