Tar Heels hammer Arkansas, head to Sweet 16

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Wayne Ellington scored 20 points, and North Carolina, the NCAA Tournament's top overall seed, rolled into the Sweet 16 with a 108-77 rout of Arkansas.

Tyler Hansbrough had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Tar Heels (34-2), who move on to face fourth-seeded Washington State in an Eastern Regional semifinal in Charlotte on Thursday. Deon Thompson scored 16 points, and Ty Lawson had 19 points for UNC, which won its 13th straight.

Sonny Weems -- who exploded for 31 points in the first-round win over Indiana -- scored 19 points for ninth-seeded Arkansas (23-12). Darian Townes had 15 points and nine rebounds, and Patrick Beverley scored 14 points for Arkansas.

Just like in their opening-round destruction of Mount St. Mary's the ACC regular season and tournament champions opened Sunday's game with a big run and never looked back. The Tar Heels registered the second-most points in NCAA Tournament history in their 113-74 win on Friday, and flirted with that number on Sunday.
