Tennessee moves on, as Notre Dame heads home

Oklahoma City, OK (Sports Network) - The top-seeded Lady Vols moved a step closer to their second consecutive national title, as Candace Parker's 34- point, 13-rebound performance pushed Tennessee past the fifth-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Sweet 16 action at the Ford Center.

Shannon Bobbitt added 11 points for Tennessee (33-2), which will now take on the Texas A&M Aggies in the regional final this Tuesday evening. Nicky Anosike posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Vols, who will be making their 23rd appearance in the Elite Eight.

Charel Allen and Becca Bruszewski scored 16 points apiece for Notre Dame (25-9), while Lindsay Schrader tallied 13 points to go along with nine boards. Ashley Barlow chipped in 11 points in the losing effort.

The Irish held Tennessee to a mere 35.3 percent shooting effort from the field in the first half and went into the break with a slim, 33-31 lead.

However, the Vols regrouped during the break and used a 14-0 run early in the second stanza, and finished the half with a 45.2 percent shooting clip from the floor, en route to the 10-point win.

The Vols limited Notre Dame to just 39.7 percent shooting in the contest and that included an 0-of-5 clip from long range.
