Texas downs Minnesota in first round play

Bridgeport, CT (Sports Network) - Brittainy Raven logged 19 points and the eighth-seeded Texas Longhorns defeated the ninth-seeded Minnesota Golden Gophers, 72-55, in first-round action of the NCAA Tournament's Greensboro Regional.

Erneisha Bailey posted 16 points and six rebounds for Texas (22-12), which will clash with top-seeded Connecticut in the second round on Tuesday.

Emily Fox led all scorers and Minnesota (20-12) with 23 points, while Leslie Knight had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Texas jumped out to a 17-5 advantage and it closed out the first half with an 11-0 run, taking a 32-18 lead at the intermission.

Minnesota closed the gap to 49-37 midway through the second half, but it would get no closer, as the Longhorns pulled away for the 17-point triumph.
