Top-ranked UConn holds on to top Syracuse


Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Mel Thomas had 15 points and six rebounds and Renee Montgomery added 14 and five boards, as the top-ranked Connecticut women outlasted Syracuse, 65-59, at the Carrier Dome.

Maya Moore added 13 points and a game-high 17 boards for the Huskies (16-0, 4-0 Big East), who hadn't beaten an opponent by fewer than 12 points coming in.

Chandrea Jones led Syracuse (14-3, 2-2) with 18 points, and Nicole Michael contributed 13 points and six rebounds in the loss. The Orange shot just 37.7 percent from the floor and lost for the second time in the last three games.
