UCLA hangs on to hand Washington St. first loss of the season


Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Kevin Love scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, as No. 5 UCLA handed No. 4 Washington State its first loss of the season, 81-74, in an early Pac-10 clash at Pauley Pavilion.

Darren Collison scored 18 points for the Bruins (16-1, 4-0 Pac-10), who won their ninth straight after their lone loss of the season, a two-point defeat to Texas on December 2. Josh Shipp scored 14 points, and Russell Westbrook added 12 points for the Bruins, who led by 18 points in the first half, and survived a late surge to hold on for the win.

Derrick Low scored 24 points, making 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, to lead the Cougars (14-1, 2-1), who continued their historic struggles at UCLA. Washington State fell to 1-42 all-time at Pauley, and 1-51 at UCLA. Taylor Rochestie had 13 points, and Daven Harmeling added 10 points for the Cougars.
