Upon further review: UCLA 51, Texas A&M 49Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - The NCAA changed the final score of Saturday's second-round game between UCLA and Texas A&M to 51-49, after it was ruled a dunk by the Bruins' Russell Westbrook came after the final buzzer. UCLA's Josh Shipp blocked a shot by Donald Sloan in the final seconds, and Westbrook tracked down the loose ball and put the exclamation point on the Bruins' win, which at the time was ruled 53-49. However, that basket was taken away on Sunday.
"As the officials were leaving the court, they waived off the basket, ruling
the ball was still in Westbrook's hands when the clock expired," said Hank
Nichols, national coordinator of men's basketball officiating. "Amidst the
activity courtside, there was a misinterpretation of the signal. But the
ruling on the court was that the basket should not have counted, making the
final score 51-49, not 53-49." The top-seeded Bruins advanced to the West regional semifinals and will play 12th-seeded Western Kentucky on Thursday in Phoenix.
