VCU extends Grant through 2014

Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Virginia Commonwealth has agreed in principle on a contract extension that will keep Anthony Grant as men's basketball coach through the 2013-14 season.

VCU is 52-15 in two seasons under Grant. The Rams have finished first in the Colonial Athletic Association both seasons, and Grant has a 31-5 record in CAA regular-season games.

"I am thrilled that we are extending Anthony's contract, as well as providing him an increased financial package," said VCU athletic director Norwood T. Teague. "His impact on our basketball program has been outstanding and it is our intention for coach Grant to serve as our head men's basketball coach for many years."

Grant was the 2007 CAA coach of the year and took VCU to the second round of NCAA tournament, beating Duke in the first round before losing to Pittsburgh in overtime. In 2008 he led the Rams to a 24-8 record.
