Woods takes over at MVSUItta Bena, MS (Sports Network) - Mississippi Valley State named Sean Woods its new head coach on Tuesday. Woods, a former standout on the floor at Kentucky, was the head of basketball operations at Texas Christian before becoming an assistant coach at the school.
Prior to arriving at TCU, Woods spent one year serving as an assistant coach
at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. He began his college coaching career at High
Point, where he assisted in game and practice preparation, player development
and scouting. Woods beat out former Grambling State head coach Dr. Lacey Reynolds and Harvey Wardell, an assistant at Tougaloo, for the job. Woods, who ranks fifth on UK's all-time assist list with 482, had his No. 11 retired by the school and was inducted into the University of Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame as a charter member. After graduating from Kentucky in 1992, Woods also played for the NBA's Indiana Pacers.
