Aina rolls past Kai in Hula BowlHonolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Marshall quarterback Bernard Morris threw for 172 yards and a touchdown to lead the Aina (East) to a 38-7 victory over the Kai (West) in the 62nd annual Hula Bowl at Aloha Stadium. New Hampshire's Ricky Santos finished 10-of-16 for 169 yards, and Tulsa's Paul Smith had 47 yards passing and ran for a pair of touchdowns in the victory. The Aina defense, meanwhile, forced six turnovers that led to 28 points. Smith put his squad on top, 14-0, by the close of the first quarter, converting rushing scores from one and six yards out, respectively. A three-yard pass from Morris to Duquesne wideout Bruce Hocker with just eight seconds left in the first half made it 21-0. The Aina tacked on a 38-yard field goal by Louisville's Art Carmody early in the third, before the Kai finally scratched the scoreboard on a 15-yard TD pass from Kevin O'Connell to California wide receiver Robert Jordan with 5:36 remaining. Toledo's Jalen Parmelle and Navy's Reggie Campbell each had one-yard TD runs in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Aina. O'Connell, a San Diego State senior, went 11-for-21 for 132 yards and one TD for the Kai. Jordan ended with four catches for 84 yards. Game Notes The East squad racked up 527 yards of total offense... The West squad was held to just 240 yards of total offense, including 35 yards rushing...The Aina won for the sixth consecutive time, and the margin was the second-most in Hula Bowl history, trailing only the North's 50-6 rout of the South in 1968...There were just a few thousand fans in the 50,000 seat stadium.
