Clemson looks to new QB after mediocre startClemson, SC (Sports Network) - The Clemson-Tigers_1.html" class=bluetext>Clemson Tigers have not lived up to their No. 9 preseason ranking and will look to get a spark from red-shirt freshman Willy Korn, who head coach Tommy Bowden named as the starting quarterback for the October 18th battle with Georgia Tech. "We need to find a spark offensively," Bowden said on Friday. "With the injuries we have on that side of the ball, we need to reevaluate our plan. A more mobile quarterback gives us more options."
Korn received a medical hardship after suffering a shoulder injury early in
the 2007 season. In four career games -- two this year -- Korn has connected
on 22-of-29 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 46
yards and two additional scores. Korn will replace senior Cullen Harper, who will have his 19-game start streak snapped against Georgia Tech. Harper has guided the Tigers to a 3-3 record -- 1-2 in the ACC -- while hitting 84-of-126 passes for 944 yards with three touchdowns and five interceptions. Clemson has scored just 24 combined points in back-to-back losses to Maryland and Wake Forest, making the decision to bench last year's ACC leader in passing efficiency that much easier.
