Dayton remains unanimous in Sports Network Mid-Major poll

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Dayton received all 32 votes to remain the unanimous No. 1 team in the Sports Network Mid-Major poll announced on Monday.

The Flyers (10-0) came from behind to beat Drake 34-27 on the road to clinch a share of the Pioneer Football League championship. That victory and No. 2 San Diego's 27-14 win at Morehead State gave Dayton the bid in the Gridiron Classic.

Drake (6-5), which was ranked No. 1 earlier this season, dropped from seventh to ninth with the defeat.

The Gridiron Classic matches the champions of the PFL and the Northeast Conference. Should Dayton, which beat San Diego in the regular season, be selected for the FCS playoffs, San Diego would get the invitation to the Gridiron Classic.

San Diego (9-1) received 29 of 32 second-place votes to remain in the second spot. Morehead State (7-3) remained at No. 4 with the loss.

No. 3 Albany (7-3) will play No. 7 Central Connecticut State (6-4) for the NEC title and the Gridiron Classic berth on Saturday. Like the PFL, if the NEC gets a playoff bid, the runner-up moves on to the Gridiron Classic.

Albany used a 21-3 victory over Monmouth to set up that title showdown. CCSU lost a non-league game to former conference member Stony Brook 34-7.

Iona (7-3) fell 17-14 to Marist, but stayed at No. 5, while Duquesne vaulted from ninth to sixth with a 51-8 thrashing of La Salle.

Davidson (6-4) moved up one position to No.9 by beating Valparaiso 44-6 and Wagner (6-4) dipped from eighth to 10th with a 23-20 loss to St. Francis.

The Sports Network FCS Mid-Major Top 10 poll includes the 20 programs of the MAAC, NEC, and Pioneer Leagues, which play at a non-scholarship or limited scholarship level. An updated poll, which is based on the votes of selected media members and FCS mid-major Sports Information Directors, is announced each Monday during the regular season.
