Hawaii AD Frazier to leave postHonolulu, HI (Sports Network) - The University of Hawaii is reportedly parting ways with athletic director Herman Frazier. According to the Honolulu Advertiser, Frazier was given the option of resigning his position or being fired. His departure is expected to be announced in a news conference later today.
The shakeup in the athletic department comes just one day after Warriors
football coach June Jones left Hawaii to take the same position at Southern
Methodist University. Jones led Hawaii to an undefeated regular season and
the WAC championship, resulting in the school's first ever appearance in a BCS
bowl game, a 41-10 loss to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl January 1. According to the Advertiser, Frazier's failure to hammer out a contract extension with Jones, whose current contract would have expired in June, was a major factor in the decision to sever the university's relationship with Frazier after a five-year tenure. Associate athletic directors Carl Clapp and John McNamara are reportedly among the candidates to run the athletic department on an interim basis until Frazier's permanent successor is found.
