Oregon RB Stewart set to enter NFL draft

Eugene, OR (Sports Network) - Oregon running back Jonathan Stewart has decided to forego his senior season and declare for the NFL Draft.

The decision comes after a record-setting season for Stewart, as he set the Ducks' single-season rushing record with 280 carries for 1,722 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2007. For his career, Stewart rushed for 2,891 yards and 27 touchdowns in three seasons at Oregon.

Stewart also saved his most spectacular performance for his final game with the Ducks, rushing for a career high 253 yards in Oregon's 56-21 rout of South Florida in the Sun Bowl December 31.

"We appreciate Jonathan's contributions over the past three years although we wish it could have lasted one-year longer," Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti said. "But I fully support his decision and believe he will be a first-round draft choice and represent the University of Oregon with the class and character he has demonstrated here."
