Twins place Slowey on DL; Liriano to be recalled

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Twins announced Friday that they have placed right-handed pitcher Kevin Slowey on the 15-day disabled list with a right biceps strain. The move is retroactive to April 4.

Slowey originally incurred the injury in his season debut on the mound April 3 against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He left that start after allowing three earned runs in 3 1/3 innings, and has not made an appearance since.

In a corresponding move, Minnesota will recall left-hander Francisco Liriano from Fort Myers of the Florida State League in time to start Sunday against the Royals in Kansas City.

Liriano missed all of the 2007 season with an elbow injury that ultimately required surgery. The 24-year-old was in the Twins' major-league camp this spring, but has not pitched in a regular season game since 2006, when he went 12-3 with a 2.16 ERA.
