Spartans DE Saint-Dic sacked for bowl game

East Lansing, MI (Sports Network) - Michigan State benched five players for Friday's Champs Sports Bowl against Boston College, with four of them due to poor academics.

Senior defensive end Jonal Saint-Dic, who leads the Spartans and was fourth in the Big Ten this season with 10 sacks, was declared academically ineligible for the contest to be played at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Also declared academically ineligible were red-shirt freshman offensive guard Abre Leggins, senior wide receiver Terry Love and sophomore wide receiver/cornerback T.J. Williams.

Spartan head coach Mark Dantonio announced that senior linebacker SirDarean Adams was suspended for Friday's game for violating team rules. Adams was tied with Saint-Dic with 47 total tackles this season.

"We have stressed the importance of finishing things all season, both in the classroom and on the playing field," Dantonio said. "It's unfortunate to find these student-athletes in this situation, but it serves as a lesson to all of us. Michigan State provides its student-athletes with a tremendous amount of resources and tools for academic success. Each individual must be committed to putting forth the time and effort in the classroom, resulting in a reasonable amount of success."
