Syracuse receiver Williams suspended from schoolSyracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Syracuse University wide receiver Mike Williams has been suspended by the school over an academic issue and his future with the team is in doubt. According to a report in the Syracuse Post-Standard, Syracuse head coach Greg Robinson confirmed that Williams is not currently enrolled at the university, but made no further comment as to the junior's status for the 2008 season and beyond.
Williams is coming off one of the most productive seasons ever for a Syracuse
receiver, leading the Orange with 60 receptions for 837 yards and 10
touchdowns. The 60 catches tied a single-season school record, and his 14
career touchdown receptions is tied for sixth-most in school history after
just two years at Syracuse. However, this is not the first time the Buffalo native has encountered academic problems. He was suspended by Robinson for the final game of the 2006 season for what was described as an academic issue. Williams also missed a practice session this spring after being excused to attend to some academic work.
