New Aggies coach Mike Sherman, former coach of the Green Bay Packers, helped Bennett evaluate his draft status. Bennett said he received a favorable report about his draft prospects from the NFL.

``He always told me he wanted what was best for me,'' Bennett told Houston television station KRIV, referring to Sherman. ``He did a lot of research for me. He has been honest with me the whole time. He's a real genuine guy.''

Bennett tied A&M's career record for catches by a tight end with 105. He had 1,246 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

``I had a great time, met a lot of people and I think I became a fan favorite,'' Bennett said in Saturday's online edition of the Houston Chronicle. ``Being an Aggie is one of the best things about the experience. My family turned into Aggies.''Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
