Bears extend DE Brown, release Muhammad

Lake Forest, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Bears made a pair of significant moves Monday, inking defensive end Alex Brown to a two-year extension while releasing veteran wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad.

Brown has racked up 405 tackles and 31.5 sacks over the first six seasons of his career -- all with the Bears. The University of Florida product has also accrued four interceptions, 25 pass break ups, 15 forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries. His deal now runs through the 2011 campaign.

Muhammad spent the last three seasons in Chicago, where he recorded 2,183 receiving yards on 164 receptions with 12 touchdowns. He spent the first nine seasons of his career in Carolina after being picked in the second round of the 1996 draft by the Panthers.

In 12 NFL seasons, Muhammad has 742 receptions for 9,934 yards and 56 touchdowns.
