Blue Bombers release veteran K WestwoodWinnipeg, Manitoba (Sports Network) - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released the franchise's all-time leading scorer, kicker Troy Westwood, on Sunday. The 17- year veteran spent his entire career with the Blue Bombers and re-wrote the team's record books in the process. Westwood, 41, holds more than 30 Winnipeg records, including all-time scoring (2,741) and most seasons leading the team in scoring (15). He also holds the CFL record for best career field goal percentage in the playoffs at 85.7 percent.
Originally a sixth round selection from the 1991 Canadian College Draft,
Westwood also kicked a league-best 663 consecutive regular season PATs. "Troy Westwood has represented so much of what is right about the Blue Bombers organization," said Lyle Bauer, president and CEO of the Blue bombers. "Troy has been a consummate professional and has represented this team so well. The longevity, the four Grey Cup appearances, the numerous honors, awards and records speak for themselves. But on top of that he has also always been a leader and friend his teammates could count on. Troy leaves a remarkable legacy with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and we thank Troy for nearly two decades of service." Westwood leaves the Blue Bombers as the fourth-best scorer in CFL history, trailing Lui Passaglia, Mark McLoughlin and Paul Osbaldiston, while his 290 games played ranks seventh all-time in league history.
