Giants sign Snee to lucrative extension

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Giants officially signed right guard Chris Snee to a six-year contract extension Wednesday.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the Newark Star-Ledger had reported on Tuesday that the deal would make Snee one of the highest-paid players at his position.

"I am just happy to have it done before the season and really just have peace of mind and not worry about it and go out and play," Snee was quoted on the club's website.

The 26-year-old Boston College product, who is the son-in-law of Giants coach Tom Coughlin, has started each of the 59 regular-season games he has played over his first four seasons for the team, including 48 consecutive. He also started all four postseason games for the Super Bowl champion Giants last season.

"We are very pleased to get Chris extended," general manager Jerry Reese said on the club's website. "He has been a tremendous player and person for us since day one. It's also very important to keep our offensive line intact."

The 6-3, 317-pound Snee joins left guard Rich Seubert and left tackle David Diehl as offensive linemen the Giants have signed to extensions since the end of their Super Bowl XLII season. They join right tackle Karim McKenzie and center Shaun O'Hara, who are already signed to long-term contracts.
