Green on his way to Miami

Davie, FL (Sports Network) - The Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs have finally completed the trade involving quarterback Trent Green.

Green will head to Miami in exchange for a fifth-round pick that could become a fourth-round selection in the 2008 NFL Draft based on the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback's playing time with the Dolphins this season.

In six seasons with Kansas City, Green completed 61.9 percent of his passes for 21,459 yards with 118 touchdowns and 82 interceptions for a franchise- record 87.3 rating.

"Trent has been a major contributor to the Kansas City Chiefs these past six years," said Chiefs president Carl Peterson in a release. "We wish Trent and his family much success in Miami. His participation on the field and his generous contributions to the community have been sincerely appreciated by the entire Chiefs organization."

Green suffered a severe concussion in the 2006 season opener, a hit that kept him on the sideline for half of the season. He completed 121 of 198 passes in eight games last season for 1,342 yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions.

This will be the fifth team for the journeyman QB, who also played under current Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron when both were with the Washington Redskins in the late 1990s. In 2005, Green's last full season, he completed 317 of 507 passes for 4,014 yards, with 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Green threw for at least 4,000 yards in three straight seasons before last year, and had topped 3,600 yards in five straight campaigns. He has 26,963 passing yards, 157 touchdowns, and 101 interceptions in his 13-year career, which also includes stints for the San Diego Chargers and the St. Louis Rams.

A Pro Bowl selection after the 2003 and 2005 seasons, Green will likely become the starter for the Dolphins. He will be 37 when the season opens.

Daunte Culpepper was Miami's opening day starter last year, making a quick recovery from reconstructive knee surgery in 2005 with Minnesota. However, he did not appear to be 100 percent in his four starts and was replaced by Joey Harrington before undergoing an arthroscopic procedure in November that essentially ended his season.

Harrington left Miami for Atlanta this offseason and the two other primary quarterbacks on the Dolphins' roster are Cleo Lemon and second-round draft pick John Beck.

The trade, which had been rumored for months, will leave former Dolphin Damon Huard as Kansas City's likely starter at quarterback. Huard played 10 games and started eight last season, throwing for 1,878 yards with 11 touchdowns and just one interception.
