Huard to start at QB for KC

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Kansas City Chiefs coach Herm Edwards announced that Damon Huard will start at quarterback for the team's Week 4 matchup with Denver.

"When you look at us right now we need a guy who can protect the football. That's probably the most important thing right now," Edwards said. "We can't turn the football over. We've done that too much in the last three games; it's been 30 points we've given up so far on turnovers.

"Damon is pretty comfortable in protecting the football and he's been in this position before and we look for him to play well against Denver."

Huard started in Week 2 against the Oakland Raiders, his 25th career start over his 12 seasons in the league, and completed two passes while being intercepted once before being pulled in favor of rookie Tyler Thigpen.

Thigpen hit 14-of-33 passes for 151 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the 23-8 loss to Oakland, earning him the starting nod over Huard in Week 3 -- a 38-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Thigpen struggled in his first NFL start, turning the ball over three times and connecting on only 14-of-36 throws for 128 yards and a touchdown.

The revolving door at quarterback also includes Brodie Croyle, who started the season-opener against New England, but left the contest with a separated shoulder and is out indefinitely.

Kansas City is 0-3 this season and has managed to score just 32 points in those three games.
