Jags' Meier gets contract extension

Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Rob Meier agreed to a five-year contract extension on Thursday.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Meier is expected to replace the departed Marcus Stroud starting at defensive tackle for the upcoming season. Stroud was traded to the Buffalo Bills in March for draft picks.

Meier played in all 16 games last season with nine starts, and recorded four sacks and 27 tackles.

The 30-year-old Meier is entering his ninth season in the NFL and has 19.5 sacks and 185 tackles in 123 games, all with the Jaguars.

Jacksonville was 11-5 last season and clinched one of the two AFC wild card spots. They knocked off the Pittsburgh Steelers on the opening weekend of the playoffs before losing to the New England Patriots in the divisional round.
