Joseph leads Roughriders over AlouettesRegina, SK (Sports Network) - Kerry Joseph threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 73 yards as Saskatchewan Roughriders defeated the Montreal Alouettes, 33-22. Andy Fantuz caught seven passes for 142 yards and a touchdown for the Roughriders (8-5), who put the brakes on a three-game skid.
Veteran signal caller Anthony Calvillo returned to Montreal's lineup after
missing three games with a rotator cuff injury and completed 27-of-41 passes
for 410 yards and a touchdown. Jarrett Payton ran for 31 yards and a touchdown while Elijah Thurmon caught eight passes for 136 yards for the Alouettes (6-7), who have lost four in a row. Montreal had the only scoring in the first quarter on Damon Duval's 22-yard field goal and a single. Saskatchewan, however, outscored the Alouettes 19-0 in the second quarter. After Montreal conceded a safety, Joseph hooked up with Fantuz for a 33-yard scoring strike that put the Roughriders up 9-4. Saskatchewan then forced an Als' punt before Joseph found D.J. Flick for a six-yard score. Luca Congi's 37-yard field goal as time expired in the first half made it 19-4 Riders. Saskatchewan tailback Corey Holmes scored from a yard out in the third quarter before Duval booted a 25-yarder. Joseph answered with a 16-yard TD to Holmes that made it 33-7. Payton's one-yard TD run brought Montreal within 33-14 and Calvillo hooked up with Kerry Watkins for a 15-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Als converted the ensuing two-point conversion when Calvillo found Ben Cahoon in the end zone. Saskatchewan, however, held on for the win. Game Notes Montreal went 1-2 under backup quarterback Marcus Brady...Watkins' played despite back spasms...Cahoon played despite suffering a hamstring injury last week.
