Lions upend Giants with late field goalDetroit, MI (Sports Network) - Jon Kitna threw for 106 yards on 6-of-7 passing with a 20-yard touchdown strike to Roy Williams on Detroit's first series, as the Lions used a late 41-yard Eddie Johnson field goal to down the defending Super Bowl-champion New York Giants, 13-10, at Ford Field. Kitna's counterpart Eli Manning was only 2-of-6 passing, while former Panthers signal-caller David Carr made the most of his opportunity for the Giants (0-1) with 104 yards through the air on 10-of-13 attempts with a 13-yard touchdown toss to Craphonso Thorpe in the fourth quarter.
Thorpe's score tied the game at 10-10, but Drew Stanton negotiated Detroit
down the field for the game-winning field goal. Kevin Smith ran for 22 yards
for the Lions (1-0), but Stanton led the way with 26. Calvin Johnson finished with four catches for 78 yards for Detroit.
