Lynch, former Giants player and broadcaster, passes away

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Former New York Giants cornerback and radio analyst Dick Lynch died at the age of 72 on Wednesday, after a battle with leukemia.

"Dick was such an important part of our organization for so many years that we really considered him part of the family," Giants president John Mara said. "He was a true Giant as a player, a broadcaster and as a man."

The Notre Dame product was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 1958, but was dealt to the Giants the very next season. Over the course of his career, which lasted until 1966, Lynch tallied 37 interceptions and 11 fumble recoveries for a combined five touchdowns in 109 games.

Upon his retirement, Lynch served as the voice of the Giants for 40 seasons. He provided analysis for "Big Blue's" radio broadcasts from 1968 until his final game, New York's Super Bowl XLII triumph over New England in February.
