Maas returns to EdmontonEdmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Quarterback Jason Maas is set to make his return to the Edmonton Eskimos, according to the Edmonton Journal. The 32-year-old helmed the Eskimos to a pair of Grey Cups in his first go- round with the club, in 2003 and 2005. However, after the 2005 victory, the team decided to make Ricky Ray the starter and dealt Maas to Hamilton.
After a season-plus with the Tiger-Cats which included a battle with a
shoulder injury and the loss of the starting job to Casey Printers, Maas was
traded to the Montreal Alouettes, and he finished the 2007 season there. The Als, though, granted Maas his unconditional release last week, paving the way for his return to the provincial capital. He is expected to be third on the depth chart for head coach Danny Maciocia's team, behind starter Ray and back-up Stefan LeFors. Although Maas does not see the end of his playing days coming any time soon, his signing paves the way for the Wisconsin native to join the Eskimos coaching staff as an assistant to Maciocia.
