Philadelphia and San Jose to battle in ArenaBowl XXII


Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Soul and San Jose Sabercats will play in ArenaBowl XXII in New Orleans after both teams won their conference championship contests on Saturday.

The Soul (15-3) beat Cleveland, 70-35, in the National Conference Championship Game, while the Sabercats (13-5) defeated Grand Rapids, 81-55, in the American Conference title contest.

The Sabercats, the defending Arena Bowl champions, are making their fourth appearance in the league title game in seven years. They are attempting to become the first team to win back-to-back ArenaBowl titles since the Tampa Bay Storm (1995-96) and to become only the third team to win four ArenaBowls.

This year's ArenaBowl will be held on Sunday, July 27 in New Orleans.

Mark Grieb completed 24-of-30 passes for 255 yards and eight touchdowns in San Jose's victory on Saturday at HP Pavilion. Cleannord Saintil had 11 catches for 113 yards and five touchdowns while Jason Geathers had four catches for 52 yards and two scores.

Matt D'Orazio completed 17-of-25 passes for 184 yards and eight TDs with no interceptions in Philadelphia's victory over Cleveland. Larry Brackins had seven catches for 92 yards and three scores.
