Report: Chiefs deal DE Allen to Vikings

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly agreed to deal Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for three picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.

The Kansas City Star reported the deal late Tuesday night, which was brought together that evening when Allen negotiated one of the largest contracts ever for a defensive player with Minnesota -- six years for about $74 million, with $31 million guaranteed.

The Vikings will send their first-round pick, 17th overall, and both their third-round picks, 73rd and 82nd overall, to the Chiefs, according to the Star. The paper said the clubs have also discussed swapping picks in the later rounds.

Allen, a 6-foot-6, 270-pounder out of Idaho State, was the NFL's leader in sacks last season with a career-high 15 1/2, in addition to 67 tackles and three forced fumbles. Taken in the fourth round by the Chiefs in the 2004 draft, Allen paid immediate dividends, tallying nine sacks as a rookie. He had 11 sacks in 2005, and 7 1/2 in 2006.

The 26-year-old does come to Minnesota with some baggage. Allen has been arrested twice for DUI, and was suspended for the first two games of the 2007 season for violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. Any subsequent violation would draw a lengthy suspension from the league.
