Rivers undergoes successful knee surgery

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The surgery was performed by Dr. David Chao at the Health South Surgical Center. The quarterback is now expected to begin an aggressive 4-6 month rehabilitation program.

Rivers revealed Monday that he played in the AFC Championship game with a fully-torn ACL. He was listed as doubtful for the game but played the entire contest, going 19-of-37 for 211 yards with a pair of interceptions in the Chargers 21-12 loss to the New England Patriots.
