Roughriders extend contract of GM Tillman

Regina, Saskatchewan (Sports Network) - The Saskatchewan Roughriders extended the contract of general manager Eric Tillman through the 2010 season on Tuesday.

Tillman became the 14th general manager in team history when he was introduced on August 23, 2006. He helped the team to its third Grey Cup victory in the franchise's history last season. The team went 12-6 last season, its highest win total since 1970, and had its first home playoff game since 1988.

"It's the goal of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club to establish an ongoing standard of excellence," stated Roughriders president/CEO Jim Hopson. "Strong guidance is key to achieving excellence and Eric has demonstrated outstanding leadership during his time with the Roughriders."

Tillman has been involved with the CFL for the last 17 years during which time he has served as general manager of four teams; British Columbia, Toronto, Ottawa and Saskatchewan. During that time he has captured three Grey Cups, B.C. in 1994, Toronto in 1997 and last season with Saskatchewan.

"I'm very grateful for this expression of confidence," stated Tillman. "Saskatchewan is such a special place. When you're given an opportunity to do something which matters so much to so many people, you are truly blessed, and I certainly am. With an announcement such as this, it's also very important to remember success is always a collective effort. So many who never get their names mentioned in the media have contributed greatly to what we accomplished last year, and to our undefeated start."
