Titans receiving corps takes another hit as Williams breaks ankleNashville, TN (Sports Network) - Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher confirmed Thursday that starting wide receiver Roydell Williams is done for the season after breaking his right ankle in practice Wednesday. Williams, in his third season out of Tulane, had accumulated a career-high 55 catches on the seasons for 719 yards and a team-high four touchdowns. He will undergo surgery to repair the bone at the base of the tibia, requiring a plate and screws.
The news comes one day after tight end Bo Scaife was placed on injured reserve
with a lacerated liver, and is just another hit to an already depleted Titans
offense heading into the postseason. Justin Gage, the team's leading receiver along with Williams, will still be available against San Diego on Sunday, but rookie Biren Ealy and veteran Eric Moulds will be asked to take on more prominent roles in the offensive scheme. Ben Troupe and Ben Hartsock will assume larger responsibilities at tight end in Scaife's absence. Tennessee is still waiting on word concerning quarterback Vince Young, who injured his quad in Sunday's playoff-clinching 16-10 victory over the Colts and is listed as probable for the Chargers game.
