Williams helps Hamilton down Toronto

Hamilton, ON (Sports Network) - Richie Williams threw for 293 yards and three touchdowns, including Hamilton's first passing touchdown of the season, as the Tiger-Cats dismantled the Toronto Argonauts to the tune of 45-21, at Ivor Wynne.

Terry Caulley ran for 127 yards and a score while Jo Jo Walker collected 86 yards receiving on five catches for Hamilton (2-5), which won its second game of the season with both wins coming against Toronto.

Kerry Joseph threw for 292 yards on 21-of-40 attempts, but had two interceptions and no touchdowns. Andre Talbot nabbed seven passes for 95 yards while third-string quarterback Reggie McNeal surprised with six catches for 101 yards lined up as a receiver. Dominique Dorsey and Jamal Robertson both found the end zone on the ground for Toronto (3-4), which lost for the second time in three weeks.

After the two squads traded field goals, Robertson capped an 11-play, 65-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge with 9:15 remaining in the second stanza. Hamilton evened things up with a four-yard strike from Williams to Robert Pavlovic on the ensuing drive. The kicks for both teams were good, and a single from Hamilton made the score 11-10.

The Tiger-Cats forged ahead with a touchdown when Caulley ran it in from 20 yards out with 1:31 left in the first half. Toronto hung tough, however, and went into a hurry-up offense with 1:06 remaining in the half. Joseph completed 3-of-5 passes for 56 yards and ran for 16 before Dorsey scampered in from three yards out for the score. Joseph then found Arland Bruce in the end zone for a two-point conversion, knotting the score 18-18 at the half.

Hamilton opened the second half with a touchdown drive, culminated by William's four-yard toss to Caulley, giving the Tiger-Cats a 25-18 advantage.

Hamilton never looked back, rattling off a single before linebacker Markeith Knowlton picked off Joseph, returning the ball 45 yards for a touchdown. A conceded safety finished off a 17-point quarter for Hamilton, putting the 'Cats in the driver's seat 35-18.

A Mike Vanderjagt 31-yard field goal opened the fourth quarter scoring for the Argonauts, but Hamilton answered with a 63-yard strike from Williams to Chris Bauman, upping the lead to 42-21. Nick Setta added a 16-yard field goal down the stretch to cap the Tiger-Cats' scoring barrage.

Game Notes

Hamilton's 45 points were the second most points allowed by Toronto this season, having lost to Edmonton 47-28 July 10...There was a moment of silence prior to the game to honour the memory of Leif Pettersen, a former Ticat and football broadcaster who died last week at the age of 57...Toronto linebacker Kevin Eiben returned to play after missing two games with a knee injury.
