Champions Tour event moves to Woodlands

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The Administaff Small Business Classic, a Houston-area Champions Tour event, will move to The Woodlands Country Club this season.

The event was held at Augusta Pines during its first four years, but tournament officials have decided to move it to a course with a "rich history in the professional ranks."

"A majority of the current Champions Tour players have played the (Woodlands) Tournament Course through the years and we know they will enjoy coming back to familiar ground," said the event's executive director, Bryan Naugle.

Formerly known as the TPC of The Woodlands, the course hosted the PGA Tour's Houston Open from 1985-2002.

Six current Champions Tour players won the Houston Open when it was held at The Woodlands, including 2006 Administaff champion Jay Haas. The others are Raymond Floyd, Curtis Strange, Tony Sills, Fred Funk and Phil Blackmar.

Mike Sullivan, now a Champions Tour rules official, also won the tournament.

"As we look to the future, we want to provide more not only for Administaff and our other sponsors, but for our spectators. We know we have found that opportunity with this venue," said Naugle.

The event is scheduled for October 17-19. Bernhard Langer won by eight shots last season, claiming his first Champions Tour win in only his fourth start.
