Ellis beats Barber in California playoffStockton, CA (Sports Network) - John Ellis beat Tommy Barber with a birdie on the first playoff hole Sunday to win the Canadian Tour's Stockton Sports Commission Classic. Ellis, a co-leader overnight, shot a three-under 69 in the final round at Brookside Country Club. He overcame a two-shot deficit with just two holes remaining when Barber, playing in the group ahead of him, bogeyed the 18th. Ellis went on to birdie the 18th to force the playoff, tying Barber at 16-under 272. Barber closed with a four-under 68 after trailing by a shot overnight. He had opened the tournament with a 73 on Thursday, then climbed back with rounds of 65-66 on Friday and Saturday. Kris Wasylowich fired an eight-under 64 Sunday to climb into solo third place at 14-under 274. Five players tied for fourth place at 13-under 275, including Adam Bland, who shot a 72 after sharing the third-round lead with Ellis. Ellis claimed $16,000 for the win.
