Ellis birdies last for second straight winMazatlan, Mexico (Sports Network) - John Ellis birdied the 18th hole Sunday to secure his second victory in a row on the Canadian Tour at the Mexican PGA Championship. "This feels so awesome," said Ellis, who won a playoff last week in California. "For so long, I was so close and now two weeks in a row. I didn't have much fun today with the way I was playing, but I am fortunate that it worked out the way it did." Ellis finished with a one-under 71 on Sunday, but it was enough for the one- shot victory. He came in at 15-under 273 and became the first player to go wire-to-wire on the Canadian Tour since Patrick Damron at Victoria in 2003. Wes Heffernan (66) and Adam Bland (68) tied for second at minus-14. Ellis began the final round with a four-shot lead, but Heffernan erased it by the turn on Sunday. Heffernan took the lead, but Ellis reclaimed first after back-to-back birdies at 13 and 14. Ellis bogeyed No. 16 to fall one behind Heffernan. The two were tied again after a Heffernan bogey at the closing hole. Ellis found the fairway off the 18th tee, then knocked his approach to seven feet. He drained the birdie putt to get his second win in as many weeks. "I did not have my best stuff today," admitted Ellis. "I birdied the first and third holes, but couldn't get anything going until I saw what Wes was doing. He got off to a great start and I realized I better start doing something or else." Jose Trauwitz posted a four-under 68 on Sunday and took fourth at minus-12. Oscar Fraustro only managed a two-under 70, but it was enough for fifth at 11- under 277.
