Ellis keeps rolling in MexicoMazatlan, Mexico (Sports Network) - Coming off a win last week, John Ellis continued his hot play Friday as he carded a three-under 69 and leads by three after two rounds of the Mazatlan Classic. Ellis completed 36 holes at 13-under-par 131. His total of 131 matched the 36- hole record that Pat McDonald set in 2005. Ellis is three shots clear of Wes Heffernan, who posted his second straight five-under 67 in round two. Richard Gilkey is alone in third at nine-under-par 135 after a 68. Garrett Sapp (68) is alone in fourth at minus-eight, while Justin Smith is one stroke further back at seven-under-par 137 after a second-round 68 at El Cid Golf & Country Club. "It went all right today. It wasn't hard to get up for today's round, but I knew it would be tough to be as sharp as yesterday's 62," admitted Ellis. "My game plan was the same - hit good shots, keep it in the fairway and make the putts. The putts didn't go in like (Thursday), but I still made four birdies. My only bogey today was on the par-three sixth hole." Frederico Garcia is alone in sixth place at six-under-par 138. Eugene Smith, Jaime Gomez, Adam Speirs and Jason Cook are one shot back at minus-five. The cut fell at one-over-par 145 with 64 players making the grade.
