Guetz extends lead at Canadian Tour ChampionshipToronto, ON (Sports Network) - Bret Guetz fired his lowest round of the week Saturday, a seven-under 65 that extended his lead from three shots to four at the Canadian Tour Championship. Guetz led a group of U.S. players who occupied five of the top six places and 13 of the top 16 at National Pines Golf Club, completing three rounds at 14- under 202.
Low scores were the norm, and Guetz needed a flawless round to preserve his
commanding lead. "The golf course wasn't as tough as yesterday, so I figured there would be some low scores," said Guetz, who had seven birdies. "Friday was more of a survival test than anything. I just wanted to play the course the way I have all week." John Ellis fired an eight-under 64, tied for the low round of the day, and was alone in second place at 10-under 206. He will play in the final tee time with Guetz on Sunday. "Bret is a good friend and I think we'll have a lot of fun," Ellis said of the leader. "The good thing is I'll get to see all his moves and I'll try to put some heat on him. Either way, we'll be pulling for each other." Mike Grob had a 68 and was in third place at seven-under 209. Rob Johnson (69) and Jim Lemon (69) joined low Canadian Wes Heffernan (69) in fourth place at six-under 210. Canadian Tour money leader Spencer Levin and Joseph Lanza were at 211.
