Hicks shoots 66 to lead in Mexico


Riviera Maya, Mexico (Sports Network) - Craig Hicks fired a six-under 66 on Thursday to take the first-round lead at the Canadian Tour's Iberostar Riviera Maya Open.

Stephen Gangluff, Joseph Lanza, Brent Schwarzrock and Daniel Im were one shot off Hicks' lead at five-under 67, with Anthony Rodriguez, Marc Lawless and Andrew Johnson another stroke back at four-under 68.

Overall, there were 50 players separated by just six shots at the top of the leaderboard.

Hicks, a 29-year-old rookie from Canada, earned non-exempt status for this season through last year's Fall Qualifying School. He missed the cut in his first start after going 73-77 at the Corona Mazatlan Mexican PGA last month.
