Norman to play in PGA Tour's Mexico eventPlaya del Carmen, Mexico (Sports Network) - The PGA Tour's first-ever tournament in Mexico is set to receive a Hall of Fame boost. Greg Norman announced Tuesday his intention to play in the second annual Mayakoba Golf Classic from Feb. 18-24, marking his first PGA Tour start in nearly two years.
A 20-time winner on the PGA Tour, Norman designed the tournament's host
course, El Camaleon, for his successful Greg Norman Golf Course Design
company. His last official PGA Tour start came at the 2006 International, where he missed the cut. Norman, a 2001 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee, has made just 10 starts in the last three seasons. He will be 53 when the tournament begins. "During the past few years, [Norman] has had a limited playing schedule and for him to add our tournament week to his plans is a bonus for all of us involved not only in the Mayakoba Golf Classic but for the game of golf in general,' said tournament director Larson Segerdahl. Fred Funk was 50 when he won the first Mayakoba Golf Classic in a playoff last year.
