Streaking Ochoa four shots behind leader ParkBroken Arrow, OK (Sports Network) - Seeking her fifth straight win, Lorena Ochoa got off to a shaky start Thursday at the SemGroup Championship. Coming off a one-week break that saw Annika Sorenstam slip into the winner's circle, Ochoa had five bogeys and shot a two-over 73 in the first round -- her second-worst score this season.
The Mexican star was four shots off the lead held by Hee Young Park at two-
under 69. "Now it's time to catch up," said Ochoa, who has five wins in six starts this season, including four in a row. "I'm going to get a little bit aggressive tomorrow and get closer to the lead." Park had three birdies and a bogey Thursday to take a one-shot lead over Paula Creamer, Ji Young Oh and defending champion Mi Hyun Kim, who were tied at 71. Kim and Creamer played in a threesome with Ochoa, with Kim offering the world No. 1 some advice on playing in gusty conditions. "Lorena hits so high, you know. Her swing is so high, so that's why the wind takes her ball way left and way right, and then she had a couple mistakes with the wind," said Kim. "But I tried to hit a low ball." Creamer, who lost to Sorenstam in a playoff last week, found herself 80 yards ahead of Ochoa, the tour's longest hitter, at the 17th hole. "It was nice," said Creamer, who had four birdies and a bogey. "It's also nice making birdie, too. That makes it even nicer." Ochoa struggled early, looking nothing like the player who has dominated a 24- month stretch on the LPGA Tour. She started on the back nine and made bogeys at 11, 13 and 14 to fall well off the early pace. Her only birdie of the round came at the par-four 16th, and she made the turn at two-over. Ochoa bounced back with a an eagle at No. 1 -- her 10th hole -- after knocking a 223-yard five-wood to just two feet. "It was good timing," she said. "It gave me some good momentum to play a little more comfortable after that." But the only thing that followed were further bogeys at the third and eighth holes that dropped Ochoa four shots off the lead. "I'm OK," she said. "I think that this is just a start. We still have three days to go. I think it was important to stay close to the leaders. I didn't have the best day, especially with my irons. But I'm going to the range to work on my rhythm. Tomorrow, I will hit it closer and make a few more birdies." Park, a rookie from South Korea, was three-under on her first nine holes after making birdies at Nos. 1, 2 and 7. "My caddy said I had to keep that score for 18 holes," said Park, although a bogey at the 16th kept her from that goal. It didn't keep her out of the lead, her first on the LPGA Tour. "Today was a very long day, almost six hour rounds, but my caddy always says 'Take your time' and 'Be more relaxed' and that helps me," said Park. "(I did) not lose much focus. (I just) think about it and then go ahead, think about it, go ahead." Sorenstam, a three-time winner at this event, took the week off.
