Vallely shoots 62 to lead Saskatchewan OpenSaskatoon, SK (Sports Network) - Dale Vallely fired a 10-under 62 on Thursday to take the first-round lead at the Saskatchewan Open. Ryan Carter and Rob Grube trailed Vallely by a shot at nine-under 63, while Chris Wall and Casey Watabu were one stroke further back at eight-under 64.
There were 20 more players within five shots of Vallely's lead, including last
week's winner at the ATB Financial Classic, Dustin Risdon (66). Vallely's 62 set a course record at Dakota Dunes. His flawless round included six birdies and two eagles, including one at his last hole, the par-five 18th. The 22-year-old Canadian has compiled a middling season thus far, posting just one top-25 finish in the six events he has played since missing the cut in his first two starts of the year. But he said it seemed like he couldn't do anything wrong on Thursday. "It was just one of those days where everything went in," said Vallely. The Canadian Tour put this event on its schedule for the first time in 24 years. The tournament, first played in 1919, was a mainstay on the tour until 1984.
